The Fuji X100T - Part II The 365 Project

On my previous post, i talked how i started shooting more with the Fuji X100T.

However, what is the point of getting a new camera if i am not going to take photos every day?! That is why i decided to try a 365 Project. Is nothing new or original. It was something i thought would keep me motivated to photograph as often as possible.

When i saw this man from the train all i could think was "Please don't go away."

At the beginning, it was hard to have fun. I wasn't used to the camera and i was putting pressure to take good photos. With time that felling went away.

Some days are hard to do it. When i am lazy all want to do is stay at home scrolling trough YouTube/Facebook hoping to find something new, other times i am working and the time is not that much to do it. Still, i made a commitment to myself that i would try even if it meant taking a bad photo or if i spiked a day, the next time i would try to do different photos on the same day. So far the most i missed were two days. Now, after the second day, i am "stressing out" because i have to take some kind of photo. It doesn't matter what or how. I have to do it and i have to accept that there will be days that i won't come back with a photo i like.

Since i started i learned that when the time is not that much, all i need is 15min to photograph something related to what i am doing. If i meeting a friend, because the camera is so compact, i take it with me and if i see something, i will photograph it. When i am working, i will take a photo of what is around or of what i am doing. There is not a lot of science behind it.

In a way is a visual diary. If i manage to take a photo related to what i am doing good. If not, i will take a photo of something else.

After finishing filming a promotional video of the Halloween i had to have a portrait of someone.

Another thing i learned was that i am starting to go away from the normal places i used to go and get lost in Lisbon. I thought i knew the city but i got to find new awesome places. Still, every time i go, i start the same way. Maybe i am looking for something i missed before.

Always my starting point. From Cais do Sodré to Praça do Comércio.

I have to mention that i am terrible approaching or take a photo from some distance away of strangers but because the focal lens is a bit wide, i have to get close to get the photo i have in mind. They will always know i am taking their photos. Sometimes i get stuck but there have been a few times i was confident enough to get close and take a good portrait.

When i manage the courage to ask for someone portrait, that is when i am the proudest.

I saw a lot of people dressing up in Brighton Pier. She was kind enough to let me take her photo.

As for the Canon 5D, i do use it for this project as well. Every time i want to develop my landscape and blending techniques, i always take it with me. Is a bit heavier and i take more gear but it is worth it. After all, i am practicing and developing my skills.

I get mad if i can't do the photo because the camera is out of battery and i didn't notice. There have been a few times that i am going to take the camera to shot and accidentally it turned On. If i don't notice soon enough everything is ruined. What i have done to solve this problem was to get an extra battery and carry with me a power bank. Good thing that it has micro USB and i can charge the battery directly on the camera.

I will be honest. I wasn't a fan of this kind of projects. Now i see how it made me more motivated, focus and passionate about photography. I have noticed at some jobs that i got a bit more creative.

To keep track of my 365 Project, follow me on Instagram and leave your critique. I would love to read what you think i can do better. I try to keep twitter updated but i am not a twitter guy.

Here are the photos. Some are missing due to the fact that i deleted them from my computer.
